The Wehrmacht "Hell on Eastern Front"

The Eastern front was biggest front in World War 2. Millions died on the eastern front. The Eastern front lasted form June 1941 till 1945 with defeat of Germany.

The German side point of view-
The German soldier at first experience success on the East Front. But when the war turned on the East Front and German armies were being destroyed in battles it soon became a death sentence to serve on the Eastern Front. The common German soldier if try to dessert would be shot by his own side or if he surrendered to the Red army he faced uncertain fate (good chances of dying while being a POW), so the soldier had no choice

Accually german losses must be counted with it allies. It makes about 8 mlns of losses. Soviet battle losses was about 8 mlns either. Not 10 mlns. Still huge so. But notice that half of soviet losses was POW losses taken in 1941. Germans killed them by hunger nd inhuman treatments. USSR took even more german POWs at the end of war but didn't killed them. If Russians treated german POWs like Gerrman did then german losses would be way higher.

In a recent study released in 2000, total german casualties on the eastern front, up to Dec 31, 1944 were 2,742,909. During the same period of time germany suffered 339,957 casualties on the western front. In 1945 alone there were 1,230,045 german casualties defending the germany. These stats were published by Dr. Rüdiger Overmans. Nice video.
