  • J'ai vu et entendu Jean Borthayre à l'Opéra de Paris ou à l'Opéra- Comique. Merci de publier cette bande et de garder ainsi le souvenir d'un baryton à la voix remarquable timbrée, chaude et au jeu puissant.

  • He made a number of studio recordings, of course, the most widely disseminated of which is the rôle of the Comte des Grieux in Massenet's Manon, with Victoria de los Ángeles as Manon.

He also sang Nilakanta in the Mado Robin Lakmé.

  • I agree on Borthayre. A French friend sent me a clip of his voice and I was blown away--I hope there are more where these came from! Thank you amov1. He really has a remarkably warm sound with very little nasality, even in French--a treasure.

  • I am quite sure that Borthayre is the best Renato I've ever heard. He has a voice comparable to Robert Merrill or Leonard Warren, a real feeling for the drama, and beautiful bel canto phrasing. It really deserves to be preserved.
