Assistant Chief Constable Terry Sweeney discusses crime statistics released by the government on January 20, 2011, which found there were almost 30,000 fewer victims of crime across Greater Manchester compared to the previous 12 months.

ACC Sweeney said there were significant reductions in violent crimes, burglary and vehicle crime.

"This is a really pleasing issue for Greater Manchester Police and the communities we serve," he said.

  • Terry, I was very impressed with your report as carried by the BBC webpage of 2nd Dec which gave the latest police position on the Stepping Hill Hospital investigation, I think the position of the police and the help of the hospital staff were correctly noted - I wish you and your force success with the outcome.
