The Sisters Of Mercy Emma

We were together since we were five
She was so pretty
Emma was a star in everyone's eyes
And when she said she'd be a movie queen
Nobody laughed
With her face like an angel
She could be anything

Emmaline
Emma
Emmaline
I'm gonna write your name high on that silver screen
Emmaline
Emma
Emmaline
I'm gonna make you the biggest star this world has ever seen

At seventeen
We were wed
And I worked day and night to earn our daily bread
And every day
Emma would go out searching for that play
That never, ever came her way
And sometimes she come home and she'd be so depressed
I'd hear her crying in the back room and feel so distressed
And I'd remember back when she was five
To the words that used to make Emmaline come alive
It was...

Emma
Emmaline
I'm gonna write your name high on the silver screen
Emmaline
Emma
Emmaline
I'm gonna make you the biggest star this world has ever seen

It was a cold and dark December night
When I opened up the bedroom door
To find her lying
Still and cold upon the bed
A love letter lying on the bedroom floor
It read,
Darling I love you
But I just can't keep on living on dreams no more
I've tried so very hard not to leave you alone
But I just can't keep on trying no more

Emmaline
oooh Emma
Nooo
Emma
Emmaline

  • Interessante Version-:-) Original ist er von Hot Chocolate :-)

  • a Masterpiece with my name in the title...!

  • why do people care so much about the thumbs up and down anyways? this song rocks, 'nuff said

  • this song goes about a girl who kills herself. i think its a pretty great story 'cause its the emotion in the song

  • such raw emotion in this song.

  • @duffdufffattybunny Well, you are right, I didn't choose the appropiate words. I should have said: IMO, so please allow me to correct this by adding this comment. Anyway, the lyrics are what both songs have in common ... and these are definitely brilliant :-)

  • One of their best! I love their very early stuff.

  • @marancara

The original was neither cheesy nor ugly. That is a matter of opinion, and both versions are good in their own ways.

  • @godozo

You forgot to get new batteries for your hearing aid didn't you.

  • The Sisters had many talents - one of those was the ability to make gold out of crap. The original version perfomed by Hot Choclate was sooo cheesy and ugly. They turned this song into one of the best ones ever performed. And so they did with many more songs, which, admittably were not sooo bad before - but they brought them to their maturity: Gimme Shelter by Rolling Stone, Gimme gimme gimme by Abba ... and of course Jolene by Dolly Partons.
