Tom Cruise is certainly a goofy individual, on the personal level. But, there is no denying that he is a dynamic, scene-making actor. I'm not really sure there has ever been another actor quite like him. He has the ability to turn "vulnerable" into "strength" almost without dialogue. He has the ability to change the tone of a scene with just his facial expressions. Pretty impressive.

@twilightzoneseinfeld Why indeed? ;-) Jessup is clearly a self-important man who believes that his rank somehow signifies that he pretty much IS the USA's defence - as if the military isn't made up of hundreds of thousands of competent soldiers who could stand in his place and defend the USA from - ahem - CUBA. Although he did touch on some valid points in his "lecture", this deluded him into thinking it was OK to disobey a direct order from the Admiral & order a Code Red.
