Constant Lambert, said to be the prototype for Moreland in Anthony Powell's "Dance to the Music of Time" series (although denied by the author) was one of those shining wunderkinder that England produced in the 1930s before the war; rather like his friend "Willie" Walton, he seemed to be composing in diapers. His music, unjustly neglected, is solid, effective craftsmanship never quite inspired. He was just as famous in London as a wit and raconteur, allegedly the love of Margot Fonteyn's life.
Just saw Mr Wilson conducting this and other film music in Glasgow - he certainly gets the best out of his orchestra!

Love this! This was on an LP in the 1970s.
