[Lyrics]

I'm an educated fool so I don't know what it is I'm supposed to do
About this awkward situation that's been thrust right down upon me
As I'm walking down into on my own into the valley of life
Got a lifetime of experience yeah I've got so much to give

Open the page at chapter one could this just be that life's just begun
Forever within your darker thoughts reflecting on everything you've been taught

Never felt this way before, seems that somebody's just opened the door
To the book of life... or is it death? is there ever any way out
Someone's looking down on me to the very inner core of my soul
They won't tell me what they see but I really want to know

I want to live my life on my own, I want to lift the unturned stone
I want to walk right into the fire, I want to live out all my desires
I want to go and see the fire burn, I want to see and feel my world turn
I want to know what more there's to learn, I want to pass the point of no return

Do you really want to be just another statistic or feel
That you really should aspire, that you really do deserve more
Do you ever really feel that you have so much potential inside
What you really have to give could be realised so much more

I want to live my life on my own, I want to lift the unturned stone
I want to walk right into the fire, I want to live out all my desires
I want to go and see the fire burn, I want to see and feel my world turn
I want to know what more there's to learn, I want to pass the point of no return

Time will flow, and I will follow
Time will go, but I will follow
Time will flow, and I will follow
Time will go, but I will follow

I want to feel what life's like respond, I want to meet my father beyond
I want to walk right into the light, I want to feel no fear but delight
I want to live my life on my own, I want to lift the unturned stone
I want to walk right into the fire, I want to live out all my desires

Time will flow, and I will follow
Time will go, but I will follow
Time will flow, and I will follow
Time will go, but I will follow

The educated fool...
..................................
'The Educated Fool' is a song from Iron Maiden's album ''Virtual XI '',released in 1998.

''This started from the guitar melody line that you hear at the beginning and it fitted really well with a couple of other ideas that I had at the time. It turned out very strong and is one of Blaze's favourites on the album. ''(Steve Harris)

'The Educated Fool' is about the deep and introspective mid-life realisation that most people eventually reach, where they begin to realise that their education and ideals are not really relevant to what is important in life. But the song also seems to be a statement of hope, to put these things into a proper perspective and face the ultimate meaning of life (whatever that might be) head-on.

This is also the first song where Steve Harris's father is mentioned ("I want to meet my father beyond"), as he had recently passed away. The other song that mentions Steve's father is 'Blood Brothers' ("Just for a second a glimpse of my father I see"), yet another life-questioning song, although on a more general level.

Musically this is an excellent song, with powerful emotion, some great vocal harmonies, and classic Maiden riffage. Definitely this is one of the best songs on the album.

'Virtual XI' (pronounced: Virtual Eleven) is the 11th studio album by British heavy metal band Iron Maiden. The album was released on March 23, 1998. It was the second and final Iron Maiden album recorded with vocalist Blaze Bayley. The album is slightly unusual in the Iron Maiden catalogue for its extensive keyboard use. For this album all the keyboard parts were performed by bandfounder / bassist Steve Harris whereas on previous albums the keyboard parts were handled by session musician Michael Kenney. The album also had a reduced songwriting input from Janick Gers compared to the previous Iron Maiden albums since he joined the band in 1990.
Just like the tour of The X Factor album, the tour for this album was cut short when Bayley suffered from an allergic reaction caused by certain elements used on the stage.

  • Fuckin' Great!

  • FUCK WHO SAYS THAT BLAZE IS AN AWFUL SINGER! HE IS AWESOME!

  • Dave absolutely destroys with that solo. So awesome.

  • @patriik0 Stare At the Sun is amazing. :D

  • @TheSuperDeathemperor Blaze is a great vocalist in his soloalbums, you should try to listen to them, search for "Blaze - Stare at the Sun". All the Maiden songs is to high for his vocal range though, so that's why he sounds out of tune.

  • I think albums like virtual and x factor show that a band can blow minds without their so much praised frontman..

  • Iron Maiden were great at every point of their career for me personaly ... Of course I prefer them with two great musicians like bruce and adrian but I really liked them with blaze (and dianno)... The fact is that in virtual xi they seemed a little depressed and you could sense that both at the live performances and songs... It was in fact a dark age at Iron Maiden history commercially speaking but gave as a lot of good music aswell .. both x factor and Virtual xi are underated albums.

  • Bruce dislike this video xD

  • They need to bring back this song to the setlist ! Killer song !

  • There was a few good songs on virtual x1.This being 1 of them
