The end of the road between Camp Zama and Sagamihara Housing Area. Check the map reference for this video to see the location for main gate at SHA. Road trip to Sagamihara Housing Area. My apology to all who speak Japanese on my very poor pronunciations of the place names. What I should have said was:

Sobudai Mae - Pronounced So boo die my
Camp Zama - Camp Zah ma (rhymes with comma or drama)
Sagamihara - Saga me har ra (say it fast)

  • I lived in Sagamihara from 1985 to 1991 and I remember being bumper to bumper everyday while going to Camp Zama - Thank you for posting this video.

  • Glad to help with the memories. My commute was in light traffic, it might have been the time of the day.

  • hello i jus wanted to say thanks for posting this vid i will be moving to zama this summer and cant find anything on the net that shows alil about the camp like housing or commisary i hope u can post some of inside the camp thanks

  • Thanks for noticing the video. Glad to help our service men and women. I will be a Camp Zama this coming week and make some videos of the general area; commissary, PX, gym, etc. Not much married housing at Camp Zama. Most seem to live at SHA and drive over to Camp Zama.

  • I have added map locations for Parts 1 and 3 of these videos showing start and ending points.

  • Oh how wonderful it was to see that!! Such happy memories of smuggling candies and cookies in to the shopping cart at the commissary while my mom wasn't looking...! :) Amazing that it still looks so similar - I left in 2001. Thank you so much for uploading.

Just an FYI - I think you have the titles for part 2 and 3 muddled up. :)

  • Hi, thanks for posting this. I'm going to be working at Camp Zama this summer and it's sort of nice seeing a video footage of the area :D

I can't quite judge it from the video but from the actual center of the army camp is it walking distance to many of the fruit marts, stores, bars and such?

  • You are welcome. when I made the video it was more to help one drive from one camp to another. But many like yourself recalled fond memories of their youth. Enjoy.
