although i speak hakka at home but i think hakka entertainment is only meant for older generations and rural areas. in Malaysia, Chinese youngsters listen to Cantonese/Mandarin songs, these are the mainstream entertainment besides the national language (Malay).

LOL Francis Ng's hakka still mixed with cantonese and Law Lan speaks like a native.

not that i dislike mandarin but i find that HK movie lost its sense of humor when it's dubbed in mandarin. i prefer to watch a movie in its original spoken language.

@owardis397 hey there i'm a chinese from malaysia, i wanna ask is there really a dispute between the HK people who speak cantonese and people from the mainland? what is the real issue actually? is it because the china government is imposing mandarin in every mainstream media? i also noticed actors from HK and China who cooperate in films read the dialogs in their own language, can they understand each other?

@yakont Aside from Hong kong being formal conversation, education, media.G
uangdong(canton) and eastern guangxi lingua franca is cantonese.Of course mandarin is better, but cantonese can catch up aswell. Is second most effective chinese language.Actually 大陸仔 is still getting looked down due to fact they corrupt H.K economy with fakes. Most of prostitutes in H.K are 大陸仔 and thai, filipina.Even today many still call them mainland pigs, and the women are known for stealing hong kong men from families. -
@owardis397 Cantonese really is only used in HK. Internationally the business language has always been English. U go west & see which Chinese language is being taught - Mandarin. Even in HK! I remember when you got looked down on in shops if u were '大陸仔' but now they get the best service! look at growth. Shenzhen has the fastest in the world (granted proximity to HK is a key factor). I love HK but Im being realistic about Cantonese use in business and Mandarin use is growing steadily over it.
The problem with some of of you, is that there are many variations of Hakka. I see a few ignorant Hakka people here when they mentioned he spoke terrible hakka. No, it's not. There are a lot of different hakka dialects. Just like cantonese, speaking toi shan doesn't mean he speaks terrible cantonese. Learn your roots before you shoot of something you do not know. Peace.
