72Mahdu.I agree with you.I visited Kyoto back in 1960 and 1961.The industrial part of the city then lay shrouded in smog but the old city and the temple Anlagen were incredibly beautiful.Unforgettable days for me.I was present on one the "lucky" days for newly-weds-lucky for me that I was able to be present-all in traditional costume.

I visited Kinkakuji when I went to Japan 2 years ago. The building itself was O.K., but nothing too special. It might have turned out pretty with better decoration, but all that gilding is just in bad taste.

Kyoto had about 47 million tourists in 2006. I visited Kyoto in 2007 and i would say it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The temples are so beautiful and the climate in kyoto is fantastic. The autum season is the best when all the leaves turn crimson red and yellow and one realises man just cannot beat nature.
