The Great River Road in Iowa

This is a video of a drive taken along the Great River Road which parallels the Mississippi river. The video starts in Sherrill, Iowa, and ends just north of Guttenberg, Iowa. The music is the 4th movement of Dvorak's "American" string quartet.

Beautiful road! I just can't understand Iowa's lack of a shoulder, safer for everyone, be they in a car, motorcycle, truck, or bicycle.

@campy9sp Iowa's road system was designed approximately 100 years ago. The roads were built to get ag products from farms to markets; safety wasn't a serious concern. Also, the land is too valuable to be used for wide roads. In places in northern Iowa, the ditches are actually planted with hay.
