Author Kaye Umansky reads from new book Pongwiffy Back on Track.
Pongwiffy is a witch of very dirty habits. She also has a problem -- the cave she has just moved into is filthy (although that's not the problem, Pongwiffy likes it like that) but also has extremely noisy neighbours. The neighbours (not unsurprisingly, as the cave is in Goblin Territory), are Goblins, and as well as being very, very stupid, are very, very noisy. They are so noisy that Pongwiffy can bear it no more and enlists the help of her best friend, Witch Sharkadder, to find her somewhere else to live. Which is nearly the end of one very beautiful friendship ...
A laugh-out-loud story that is witty and clever, enticingly mixed in with much sludge, slime and very bad habits.
Where have Chris Smedley's illustrations gone? These new illustrations are awful! They're not right for the books at all! I miss the witches and familiars very very much - I don't even recognise these new drawings.

Yeah! It's just not the same is it? But I suppose it's hard to get the same artist; don't forget that the first book was written in the 1980's. But I agree that all the witches look awful in the new ones. The way that Chris Smedley drew them was perfect.

@Indeed999 Yeah I read it, thought it was really good, I just hate the new artist that is doing the books now, especailly since tehy went back and redrew the old books.
Pong and the rest of the witches just look horrible

There is now a short Pongwiffy story published for world book day if you're interested, called Pongwiffy and the Important Announcement. Check it out, I'm half-way through it and it's hilarious.

I love the Pongwiffy series... though I do miss the illustrations of Chris Smedley, he really made the series special...
