The irony of oil (if you believe in PO) is that no matter how much we use it, it won't actually run out. The wells will fall so much in production decline they will only produce the minority of oil which wasn't worth the energy to extract it (EROEI) and thus abandoned with oil still in the well. So, oil will leave us orphaned for better or worse however it won't be dead, it will just abandon us and leave us to face a future without it being around.
