As a Navyman I've to say I got goosebumps watching this! And i love the Excelsior class.... so massive, bully and really impressive :)
-
you really did a fantastic job on this.

If I remember right, Starfleet was largely inspired by the U.S. Navy, as several of Trek's creators and cast including Gene Roddenberry himself (a decorated WW2 bomber pilot) had experience serving in the military. In that case, this is a very fitting tribute indeed!

@katakisLives The Excelsior class is my all time favorite, but I can't help but have a soft spot for the Miranda which through your very accurate observations has long stood as one of the stalwarts of the Fleet, grossly underestimated as it may be.

@translucentorb Exactly! while other ship designs largely stole the spotlight the Miranda was ever present! there aren't that many good clear shots of it in flight and I viewed some video's of it and it was a rather beautiful design! I always loved the design of the ships from the Kirk movie era with the refit constitution class design features.

@katakisLives Ay, its a beautiful ship with what mustve been dozens of refits... Played crucial roles at the battle of Wolf 359, the Borg incursion of 2376, and of course the many battles of the dominion war, not to mention over 150 years of exploratory and diplomatic services. Also it was what I would assume to be the basis for the Nebula Class ship as well.

@translucentorb Yes! I have been reminded of the Miranda class star ship! I like the Miranda class vessel! its got that look of a vessel that's not the most glamorous in the fleet but its reliable and gets the job done! I think one had a starring role in Star trek 2, it really was a long lasting design!
-
@katakisLives I think the Miranda class might be the longest.
-
@steppres It must be one of the most destroyed vessels in starfleet history too! most of the times I have seen it in action its getting either disabled or destroyed its one of those ships thats mainly in the background. it is a cool looking ship but not as memorable as the excelsior, that had far more starring roles.
Love the excelsior class !

Great vid and music. I recall the excelsior as 'the great experiment'.
