My second request review from Bluedragonmaster98, for the anime film "Metropolis" from the godfather of manga himself, Osamu Tezuka! I tried some new things in this review, let me know what you think of them and enjoy this awesome anime movie review ^^

  • You really gave this movie justice! Praising and Gushing over it, but then giving it some terribly ruff criticisms the next second later. Bottom line, this was an excellent review of yours. :D Unlike your Akira review though... I don't 100% agree with everything you said here. Then again, it has been several years since I've last seen Metropolis (back when Adult Swim ran it), so I'll definitely give it another watch.

  • @Sonic2332 The animation criticism is my personal opinion but the whole issue with the character of "Skunk" is quite valid, I also recommend watching it again and you'll see exactly what i mean.

  • I coulda swore the way you went on about it that this movie was gonna be a five. Just saying...

  • @Xelief I get that alot.

  • Just saw this movie yesterday and it has easily become one of the best on top of my list. But the only part that i was disappointed of is where they played the song by ray charles in one scene where the ziggarat was being blow up. Its sorta unfitting. But overall, 5/5 on thsi piece.

  • Skunk kind of reminded me of an earlier Malcolm McDowell with that lop-sided smirk of his.

  • one of my fall time favorites

  • ummm... metropolis was only very loosely inspired by the Fritz Lang film, in fact Tezuka had never seen the film when he wrote the story, the architecture and name of the story was taken from a poster he once saw of the film, thats it. Nerdy nit-picking aside this was a great review

  • Great job with this review. I remember watching this movie and thinking, "Damn, this is why I got into anime! This, and Akira, Ghost in the Shell (the first film), Vampire Hunter D, Doomed Megalopolis, and others...they don't make stuff like this in America. I must watch the 1927 Fritz Lang movie. I look forward to viewing your other reviews. Keep it up, man.

  • Good review, asked for this from my local library, now I'll have something else to watch. thanks.

  • Speaking of an American song in an anime film, Country Roads was in Whisper of the Heart, interestingly enough.

  • I loved Metropolis. I can't hear "I can't stop loving you" without picturing epic destruction anymore!

I liked the art style. I get so sick of anime all using the exact same art style, I prefer things to be original. Recently I saw a video of Pokemon mixed with Elfen Lied, looking like a pokemon going on a bloody massacre. Hilarious stuff but proof that the art styles in anime are too similar.

Skunk was kinda random though, yeah.

  • @BionicSlime Right, I definitely agree with the part about Skunk. I remember him just being thrown in there, and was soooo half assed.
