The great cinematographer James Wong Howe made this look so good. Funny that you say "colors"--the black and white is so rich, and so evocative of New York in the 1950s, real color would have ruined this film.
The only problem with the movie is I've seen it so often i know most of the lines: "The brains may be Jersey City, but the clothes are Traynor Norrell".
I love this movie. The script was great but the way it was shot, the look of the film is what caught my attention. The colors, the cinematography it's great.
Burt totally convincing as he brings out his sinister & menacing persona totally convincing as Burt plays the villain one can be forgiven for thinking it was someone else other than Burt. Its this what made him the most rounded actor I have seen.
