2050: Redesigning Our Energy Future is an hour-long television special that takes a look at the looming challenges the world faces over the next 40 years, as energy demands intensify while non-renewable energy resources continue to diminish. With an expected 2050 global population of nine billion people, most of whom will be living in vast megacities, it's clear that pressure on the world's resources creates daunting challenges for humanity. But these difficult prospects also come with amazing opportunities, as individuals and communities explore what it will take to build a better future. 2050 will take a look at both the real challenges, as well as the people of today who are working to come up with innovative, viable solutions to create a more sustainable energy future for the world.

How about we use completelybelectric vehicles with wireless energy being transferred to them from the ground. We have the technology? why dont we direct our improvements toward a non-combustion era?

Done get me wrong i think we have to explore a;alternative energy sources, it just bothers me to see ppl saying that the new electric car they drive does not pollute. Ignorance abounds, but its the internet. Ignorant self proclaimed experts are the only ppl who post here anyhow so i guess its all good. lol

Ethanol makes my car run poorly and burn more fuel, thus putting more pollution into the air. I get better running, better fuel economy and less emissions by running premium 98

Cleaning the air with sugar? Not bad! But if we really want to help clean the air, it's OUR responsibility to do our part. During the early morning hours of the hot summer days, many citieis have hiking and biking trails. And we ought to be using them. Some of them will even have direct access to corporate parks or transit stations. Also we need to learn to recycle rather than have all of our trash be carted off to the landfill.

The remaining % are better alternatives like natural gas, nuclear, renewables. There is no silver bullet yet and perhaps never will be. These measures are bing scaled up and new tech developed to decrease pollution now while humans do what they do best, innovate.

Ummm your figures are highly incorrect. The use of coal for electricity generation has declined substantially over the last 10 years. Coal generation is now primarily utilized as baseline generation due to reliability and is at about 42% overall US production.
