Spanish Mackerel love Wolf herring and possibly the best bait and rig on the planet. Here's possibly the easiest way to rig a swimming Wolf Herring with the highest hook up rate possible. Ready made rigs with two types, one with a keel and one with a angled Bib which helps get the bait down deeper. Wolf Herring are the best bait for Spanish (King) Mackeral and when trolled slowly are deadly. Any spanish (King) Mackeral in the area can't resist. Troll these with a rigged swimming gar and you cover all bases. 4 Knots seems to be about the best speed when chasing Mackeral, Put out a couple of lures as well, with the baits right back, and lures in closer. Will tend to get the bigger spanish mackerel on the Wolf herring and monsters up to 30 or 40 kilo are possible. Alll the best when fishing!!

  • OMG they look like baby tarpon!

  • They do look like your Tarpon, We have a tarpon in Australia, but unfortunately only grow to about 2 kilo's or 4 pound. they're a great sportsfish on lightline and jump as well. Wolf Herring make the best bait for Spanish (king) mackerel. Would love to catch one of your monster Tarpon one day,

    cheers Greg

  • Top Spanish Mackerel rig and nice and easy, Probably prefer the bibbed rig, helps dive down deeper, if too fast with the keel bib, planes up. Troll slow about 2 - 4 knots, Depends how deep you want them to dive, if spanish mackerel or bait fish showing deep , even stop and let the baits sink then start trolling again, Wolf herring are deadly and if any spanish around they can't help themselves,

    cheers Greg

  • Very nice rig mate, definately worth a try. What speed do you troll your ribbonies at? As slow as possible?

  • Top effort, I don't get much chance to sportsfish now adays, but good fun, Spanish mackerel around the 8 - 10 kg mark are full on at the moment and was considering giving the lighter line a go,

    cheers Greg

  • You gotta Love that screaming run and the sound of the ratchet on that first strike, Spanish Mackerel can motor,

    Cheers Greg
