Kelvin Thomson, Member for Wills, told the Victorian National Parks Association Grassland Community Day that the Urban Growth Boundary extension proposal represents a further breach into Melbournes promised Green Wedges. The extension of the growth zone means that the sacrificing of inner suburban quality of life has been in vain.  We are cramping in the inner suburbs and we have urban sprawl as well.   We will have more communities isolated from reliable transport services and highly car dependent, as well as clogged congested inner suburbs streets.
Like a man rapidly gaining weight who simply loosens his belt rather than confront his weight problem, Melbourne needs to ask itself, is a population of 5 million really going to give us a better city than one of 4 million?

It also means that buildings will have to be a lot smaller than the current house block sizes there are today and when urbanization means everything close to each other it literally means it has to be within walking distance no get in you're car and drive 15 minutes to the place u need to go to.

  • Lets try to keep Melbourne a leading liveable city.....Make sure you go to Melbourne and visit the CH2 building. CH2 shows us the way ahead for sustainable design. Its time for Melbourne to evolve Lets start building sustainable green precincts in the CH2 style..........now !

  • Hi, please watch my video on Urban Sprawl :)

  • The reason Los Angeles loses homes in almost every fire season is because new suburbs were recklessly built on natural fire trails in her mountains. Now force-fed Melbourne just can't wait to follow that lead. *sigh*

Keep on fighting the growth machine, Kelvin. It's out of control.
