CHEN:
And in the wake of chaos in Tibet and protests in major cities around the world, Taiwan's leadership took a strong stand against China's crackdown.

STORY:
Taiwan is gearing up for Presidential elections this coming Saturday. And despite disagreements over major campaign issues, over the weekend both candidates, as well as Taiwan's current President, spoke out against China's handling of the Tibet crisis.

[Ma Yin Jeou, KMT Presidential Candidate]:
"Therefore we strongly condemn China's action."

[Frank Hsieh, DPP Presidential Candidate]:
"We are against China's suppression, and we express concern."

[Chen Shui-bian, Taiwan President]:
"How dictating, how tyrannic!"

The Democractic Progressive Party candidate, Frank Hsieh, also made a connection between the current situation in Tibet and the future of Taiwan.

[Frank Hsieh, DPP Presidential Candidate]:
"But in the process we also see, once we open a gate for China, we may end up like
Tibet."

Taiwan is claimed by China as a 'renegade province,' but many, including Taiwan's current government, see Taiwan as a sovereign nation. Hsieh's comments also point to the upcoming elections, as the KMT party is seen as favoring closer relations with China. While Hsieh's DPP
party favors automony for Taiwan.

Australia, the United States, and Europe have also called for a peaceful resolution to the Tibet crisis.

  • Taiwan belongs to China - period - like it or not! Use of Force is Authorized to restore peace and harmony! US has done it in Regime change - Russia did it to restore Peace in the Cauacus when Georgia tried to supress its own citizens that claimed recognicition, why can't China?

  • FREE THE NORTH AMERICA, RETURN THE LAND TO INDIAN.

  • @BAIYUE1 How many Shanghainese do you know? how many people from Taiwan do you know? Hokkien and Hakka people are a branch of Han people btw.

  • @BAIYUE1 So you're saying you want countries all over the world to speak different languages, instead of learning 1 offiial language? so that they can never communicate? don't be a fool.In Britain, people speak English, and they teach English in their school. You're practically saying if England was China, then the English shouldn't teach English to people in their schools. You're going to say English is the official language for England right? no shit. Mandarn is the official in China.Same thing
