This RE4 run is a varient of VMerken's No Merchant Combat Knife/Handgun run in which I try to make the game as "movie-like" as possible. This is the NTSC Gamecube version.

The rules of a No Merchant Combat Knife/Handgun run are:
-Start from a New Game
-No business with the Merchant
-No continues, no deaths
-Combat Knife and Handgun only

In addition to that, this run adds these rules:
-No damage
-No pausing or opening the Attache Case for any reason

Furthermore, in this run I:
-Pace myself (walk during slow bits, etc.)
-Leave in the cutscenes unless there's some gameplay reason to skip
-Pick up and read all files except Playing Manual 2, Playing Manual 3 and Target Practice (because they don't exist).
-Don't reload incessantly (I try not to throw away 9 bullet magazines without reason, for instance)
-Don't pick up any items I don't need, like healing items and grenades
-Play Normal mode, because I'm not insane

I know I'm breaking one of VMerken's rules by playing on Normal. However, most of the challenge of this run is still there: since I never get hit, it doesn't matter that the enemies do less damage, and my strategies have all been tested in Pro and work. What Normal does is make certain scenes, like the infamous chapter 5-2, less meat-grindingly impossible.

YouTube permitting, each video should be one chapter. Since I'm not using continue points, I basically play typewriter-to-typewriter and then edit together my successful attempts at each section into one, flowing video of the entire chapter. The aim is to make something that one could theoretically sit down and watch and get most of the content of the game (even if they'd never played RE4 before). I cut on the black screen after each typewriter save, but if you pay attention you can still tell where they are: it takes slightly longer for the game to fade in from black when loading a save, and you'll hear a cut in the audio.

Also, to spice things up I added some "Leon's Mind"-style in-universe commentary annotations. These mainly serve the purpose of pointing out my Fridge Logic moments (and RE4 has plenty of those), and I put them in the annotations so you can turn them off if you don't want to see them. I also include out-of-universe "meta" notes in the description of each video.

Enjoy

Meta-notes:

9:52 - Did you see it? The longer fade-in indicates that I loaded that save up, then cut the video together to make it look like one run.

13:45 - I know there are safer strategies for this scene, such as the hole-in-the-door trick. I opted for something a little more fun to watch, and that uses less bullets.

24:20 - You can compare this typewriter to the previous one, since this time I didn't have to reload the save.

33:01 - Milestone: first bullet fired :D
