Heretics

Tit_3:9 But avoid foolish questions and genealogies and contentions, and strivings about the Law, for they are unprofitable and vain. Tit_3:10 After the first and second warning, reject a man of heresy, Tit_3:11 knowing that he who is such has been perverted, and sins, being self-condemned.

Striving about the law
These are the non-essentials of the faith if there are any at all.

This does not mean defense of the moral law but of the ceremonial laws which were types and shadows who Christ being the anti type fulfilled in his earthly ministry and continues the fulfillment of in his heavenly ministry.

Note Barnes:
And contentions, and strivings about the law - Such as the Jews started about various matters connected with the law - about meats and drinks, etc.; the notes at 1Ti_1:4; compare the notes at Act_18:15.

Note JFB:
strivings about the law — about the authority of the commandments of men, which they sought to confirm by the law (Tit_1:14; see on 1Ti_1:7), and about the mystical meaning of the various parts of the law in connection with the genealogies.

After first and second warning
This does not mean a close ended statement given by the faithful witness. Rather, the faithful witness allows the contention to be aired by the individual then the faithful corrects, rebukes and instructs using the whole council of God's word set forth in the scriptures. After the first and second warning have nothing more to do with them.

Sins - misses the mark
Outside of truth there is no fellowship with God.

Contending for the faith

Act_11:2 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him, Act_11:3 Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them. Act_11:4 But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,

Jud_1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
