2009 World Series of Bricklaying

The SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® National competition decides, "Who is the World's Best Bricklayer?" The 2009 National competition will be held February 4, starting at 11:30 AM PST in the Gold Lot of the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada. This timed, 60 minute competition is held once a year during the World of Concrete / World of Masonry trade show. This is the largest annual construction trade show in the world. The official attendance at this four day show was over 92,000 attendees in 2008. The 2009 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® National is a bricklaying competition comprised of the best bricklayers in the world. In 2009 bricklayers from Canada will field teams. Twenty, 2-man teams made up of a mason, and mason tender, compete to lay the most bricks defined by strict quality standards. The competition has the largest winner's purse of any masonry competition. The competitors compete for well over $150,000 in cash and prizes before a crowd of 4,500 spectators. Established to showcase the skill and craftsmanship of masonry, the contest requires all masons to meet the quality standards of the event. They have 60 minutes to complete their 26 foot, double wythe brick wall. The competition has four awards, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place are based on the highest brick count meeting the quality standards. The 4th award, the SPEC MIX TOP CRAFTSMAN® is for the most sellable wall over 500 brick. This award is the second most coveted award at the event, and has the second highest award purse.

I really miss working :( Been disabled for 7 years .All that constant bending over caused me 2 herniated discs and then one ruptured ,so be careful all other masons !

It's a competition, I know for a fact, that most of these guys are very good mason's, this is about speed and counts nothing else, try it sometime just for kicks

fair play they can lay 700 bricks in an hour but please don't call it worlds best bricklayers, its hard enough gettin a good name in our line of work as it is !!!!!

How can you say that its afukin competitio. think about it if they could lay 700+ bricks in an hour slashing them up what do you think they could lay ina day taking there time. Im a spread and somtimes we have competiions at work for who can spread the most and you know what are wall are smooth put not perfect as where laying on 4 times as much. watch there wrist actiona dn speed they are fukin fast.

yeah, if these guys were all that they would be at work and their boss wouldn't let them off for this crap. The mason tender competition is a joke, I'm a HOD carrier, a real one, I've never worked on the asphalt before. They should make it on the side of a hill.
