Follow these tips from Carter Oosterhouse to make sure your home is properly insulated and you are maximizing your energy savings.

Make sure your insulation is at least 19 inches thick. If it's not, use Johns Manville insulation, which is formaldehyde free. Seal up leaks around windows, or replace your windows with Pella double pane windows, which are more energy efficient than single pane windows.
