A broad overview of the development of Graphic Design from 15,000 years ago until today. I am a teacher of Graphic Design in Meridian, ID. I made this video for a University assignment, and will be using it in my classroom next year. As a teacher and student, this work falls under the education copyright exception. I appreciate all of the material that was available via the web to create this education video. I do not claim copyright ownership over anything in or related to the video.

  • @morganmmm hey i think your the only one who dont understand the video.

  • Furthermore, graphic design does not have to be digitally based. Before they term came into use in the late 1980s, they were called commercial artists- that's what my job title was when I started my career. Then I became a graphic designer, then a creative director, then just a 'senior creative'.

Graphic design is a small subset of the fine and creative arts- they do not exist to set up graphic design, and I'm appalled that you would even consider telling your students such rot.

  • Art noveau commercial applications were created by fine artists. Commercial work was done by artists to bring in money or as a chosen medium. Graphic design was not considered a separate occupation, and the term was not even coined until 1922.

The Bauhaus taught industrial design AS fine arts.

The mouse was not invented for graphic designers. You have to be kidding with this.

  • 1.40 The Lascaux cave paintings are not graphic design: there is no commercial dimension. They are art.

Nor do words + pictures make it graphic design. Text has been an integral component of countless art forms and genres throughout history.

Piet Mondrian's grid paintings are fine art, and date from 1920. The only people who ever called him the father of graphic design are graphic designers.

Heiroglyphs and illuminated manuscripts also have nothing to do with graphic design.
