North Carolina Dance Theatres 2009-2010 Season of Magnificent Moves concludes with Directors Choice May 13-15, 2010! President and Artistic Director Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux handpicked three ballets for this program based on their significance, artistic excellence and creativity.Bonnefoux chose a premiere by Dwight Rhoden, George Balanchines Apollo and Mark Goddens Constructing Juliet.
In Constructing Juliet, set to Tchaikovsky, chorographer Mark Godden explores how the ancient grudge from Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet is passed from one generation to the next. Juliet, danced by Rebecca Carmazzi, strives to separate from her family to be with Romeo, danced by Sasha Janes. Instead, Juliet is overcome by her families strong hold and their disgusting rituals. Juliet succumbs to the pressures of her mother, danced by Traci Gilchrest, and her family by literally swallowing the family pride.
