wow...wow....wow...the memories...holy s#$%@! I remember when 'give it up' was released...ahhh tribal house...it was ridiculous. I wanted to spin there so bad...I was so impressed of the power the dj's had. And to be there at 3am on top of a speaker and without even drugs and to feel like u were in another world. I thought to myself, look there are the gods in the dj booth. Wow I've been thinking about the palladium and the limelight for the last week. It must be a planet thing.
You did a great job on this video. I love the infomative bubbles that come up.
I'm mainly interested in the lights (looking at 1992 nyc club videos for this right now). What sort of moving lights were in that rig. They look like early Vari*Lite moving heads although in other videos from this club I've seen HES Intelabeams and lots of them.
No not intelabeams, Not sure the make but they are yoke lights moving heads. These are the original lights that were installed when the Palladium first opened. They had more but as time went by, more of them were removed due to malfunctions. I guess they used the old parts to repair what they had working and they were repair by the lighting engineer (Martin) at the Palladium.
The moving lights were Vari*Lite VL1 fixtures run from the original VL1 console. I used to be a Vari-Lite engineer and now am the Head of Lighting for Cirque du Soleil.
I remember i took a yellow taxi from the Palladium to Queens and the darn guy didn't know how to get to Queens, It was like 1988 or something , he charged me $25, but the Palladium back then was cool in the mid to late 80s
great video. thanks for taking us back in time. last memories were listening to the good men from the center of the main floor and then saw the comment you made! also, seeing Siz(old friend) on some Flex nights. House Music there was more like a home...
