@Iraqistan45 football padding 101: the padding doesnt protect the player from a hit or stops him from getting hurt, yet simply absorbs force. When a player gets nailed in the chest, the force is redistrubted around his rib cage, allowing them to bend without snapping. In rugby, this doesnt happen, thus the force is direct. Same goes with helmets.
Besides, football players tackle with 3x the amount of force ruby players do, and with the equilvalent of a 35 mph car crash into a wall.
