This movie was quite popular when originally released in 1973 and maintained a cult following for many years. Many people found Buford's friend Lutie McVey (played by Ed Call) to be extremely annoying and one of the worst parts of the movie.

Brenda Benet who played Luan Paxton (the woman in the bar wearing the see-thru outfit who Buford meets at approx 14:20 in this segment) was married to actor Bill Bixby during the filming of Walking Tall. They had a son in 1974 and then divorced in the late 70's. Their son died in 1981 during a winter vacation trip and Brenda had extreme difficulty dealing with the loss of her only child on top of the divorce. Sadly she committed suicide on July 7, 1982.
