Animal rights protesters gathered at the Statehouse in Trenton this afternoon to call on Gov. Chris Christie to use his executive power and cancel the bear hunt scheduled to begin Dec. 6. The state has not had a bear hunt since 2005 and officials at the Department of Environmental Protection, which administers the Division of Fish and Wildlife, maintain the bear population has grown exponentially. A controlled hunt, officials say, is the only way to keep the population in check. But activists dispute the DEP's data and call for bear management policies that exclude the killing of bears. • A sustainable harvest of a renewable resource is humans living in harmony with animals and nature.

  • Bunch of disgraceful un christian hippies! God, made man ruler of animals. Animals are here to be harvested by man. Anti hunters are so ignorant yet want to act like they are so smart. A lot of people depend on hunting to feed their families. How about these idiots put their time and energy into the human race instead of the animal race. Would these people rather families of humans starve because they can't afford food or provide for their families with meat from hunting?

  • they are right you fuckheads. Why can't we have human hunting instead of the animals. Lots of murderers in prison are justing sitting around. Why can't we hunt them for fun. I mean they deserve to die but these wild animals have done nothing! Oh and by the way i mean every single word i said!

  • I love how there is a woman in here saying this is a trophy hunt and she knows nobody who would eat bear. Pretty sure she has to be one of the most uneducated people that I have seen. I love to hunt and love to bear hunt as well. I have pounds upon pounds of bear meat in my freezer. I think if antihunters would get their heads out of their asses they would see that without hunters, populations would keep rising and animals would starve to death which is worse than being taken out ethically.

  • Ship them to Pa we will hunt them down!

  • what if the bear owes me 20$ can I then break it's legs????

  • @USArmyIsMyFuture Well someone can have fun while hunting but its not a motivation to hun t

  • @irelandcool1 did you say that animals should be hunted for fun?! i hunt to use as much as i possibly can, and i enjoy hunting to be honest. granted, i dont NEED to hunt, but to know how to harvest food from the wild is perfectly fine especially if our American economy continues to fail. which do you think is better for me? to get 50 pounds of GOOD meat for one (or two at the most) bullet that is maybe $1.25? or go buy meat from anywhere between $1.50-$10 per pound

  • @irelandcool1 well you don't need to state the obvious on the normal reactions of bears on human encounters with them. I mean everything you posted was all common sense and anyone would know that.

  • @Firecloud500 I didn't say you were uneducated about this
