Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Sonata No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 14, was composed in 1912 and premiered on February 5, 1914 in Moscow with the composer performing. Prokofiev dedicated the sonata to his friend and fellow student at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, Maximilian Schmidthof, who committed suicide in 1913.

Соната № 2 Ре-минор для фортепиано была сочинена Прокофьевым в 1912 году. Премьера состоялась 5 февраля 1914 года в Москве с композитором в качестве исполнителя. Прокофьев посвятил сонату своему другу и однокурснику по Санкт-Петербургской консерватории, Максимилиану Шмитгофу, который покончил жизнь самоубийством в 1913 году.
