the first year will establish the roots...not a lot of growth anyway. next spring keep each plant to 4 or 5 shoots and you should produce pretty good. I am in Oregon and have been growing mine for 2 years now. I didn't trim anything the second summer and had about 50-75 shoots per plant with VERY little flowering. Some chicken shit, trimming (lots of trimming) and water you should do good. Try not to break the ends of any of them cause they will not grow any longer if you do. Good luck
