My Bichon (now just over a year) hardly barks at all anymore. She used to be a big barker when we first got her, but by disciplining her (light smacks on her back) she has figured out that if she barks, she gets disciplined. DO NOT give your dog treats to stop barking. The dog will then think that if he/she barks, he/she gets a treat, so he/she will think it is correct behavior.
