Another http://www.CoolCleveland.com video exclusive.
Have you noticed something about the Beachland? The new types of events that are popping up there more frequently lately? The Beachland Ballroom and Tavern opened in 2000. In the 11 years since, it has become the top music venues in the Cleveland area, and one of only three to consistently offer nationally touring artists. The Beachland presents at least two artists every night -- one in the Ballroom and another in the Tavern, and often the shows feature more than one act, and sometimes there are even two shows in one night in the Ballroom and/or the Tavern. That's a lot of music. And it's almost every type of popular music -- every kind of rock, and folk, blues, bluegrass, rockabilly and more.
But the venue has also started hosting many fund-raisers for small arts and other non-profit organizations, political rallies, and even memorial events for people who were members of the region's musical and arts communities. Why are they holding those kinds of events? Can't they make more money booking rock bands? Maybe it's not all about money.
Cool Cleveland correspondent David Budin went to the Beachland to ask co-owner Cindy Barber about that. Hear what she had to say here.
