53 trillion unfunded liabilities..Yeh sure, and how many years forward are the liabilities?100? It's not like 'suddenly' America gets lumped with 53 tril to pay at once. Simple maths says that 53 trillion is 176000$ for every single american person. I don't America plans on paying 176000$ to every American anytime soon, nor simply the baby boomers. This needs to be made clear. In fact I heard that this tactic of fear spreading was aimed at scaring people into changing the social security system.

I remember doing the math back when Regan was in office, the deficit was 1.6 trillion dollars. At that time it equated to $6,000 for every man, woman and child in the United States. Somehow it turned around. I don't see how it could do so now.

Not only is taking away benefits for which people had already paid outrageous, it's downright obscene at a time when these people have just seen much of the wealth in their homes and their retirement savings disappear in the crashes of housing & the stock market. Making matters even worse is that fact that Peterson's friends in the financial industry, along with many of the economists who would like to cut Social Security, were the primary culprits in this nightmare.
