Where to buy:

these are the best quality magnet spheres on the market

Ok so i've gotten alot of requests to do videos with less than 226 magnets, so here you go. This is all of the [regular] spheres you can make that are platonic/Archimedean solids and have side lengths of one. I know I didn't include a buckyball (truncated icosahedron) but its not really a sphere (its kinda irregular), I already have a video of how to make one (tutorial #1), and after the first 5 I didn't have enough left without wrecking them.

Shapes (in order made)

Tetrahedron:
4 triangles, each triangle touching 3 others (duh)
**this is the HARDEST shape i know how to make. not because its complicated but because the magnets REALLY don't like being like this and getting them there is really hard. good luck to anyone else who tries it
Balls Used:
4 triangles (4 x 3) = 12

Dodecahedron
this one technically isn't done right. It should be 20 triangles or 12 pentagons but this one is fun and easy
Balls used:
12 faces (12 x 1) = 12

Hexahedron/Octahedron
this one can either be a hexahedron (cube) or an octahedron, depending on how you look at it. if its a cube, then its 6 squares together (how i built it), but if its an octahedron then its 8 triangles together. build one yourself and look at it. its kinda fun
Balls used:
6 squares (6 x 4) = 24

Cuboctahedron:
this one is a little tricky to make (thus my fail at it the first time). its 6 squares and 8 tirangles. each square touches 4 triangles and each triangle touches 3 squares. not too complicated but it breaks itself near the beginning
Balls used:
6 squares (6 x 4) = 24
8 triangles (8 x 3) = 24
Total = 48

Dodecahedron/Icosahedron
this is another one that can be two. If you look at the 12 pentagons then its a dodecahedron. if you look at the 20 triangles then its an icosahedron. really easy to make with pentagons, not so much with triangles.
Balls used:
12 pentagons (12 x 5) = 60

  • lol, there's a much easier way to do the first one:

you just take 5 spheres and make a circle and then you do another one and put them together, then you just put a sphere on the bottom and the top :)

  • @ISuperLoveMovies yeah... you just described how to make the second one, not the first one. you would know that if you read the description.

  • how do you make the first spheres

  • @8802rocks the first one is four triangles put together. Its a tetrahedron (3 sided pyramid) so you put three of them together in a point and then stick the last one on the bottom. it is a LOT harder than it sounds. the second one is just 2 pentagons stuck together to make a ring with another dot used to plug each hole.

  • i don't know if it is because they are smallers, but they look more like real spheres.

  • the result of the first two are the same

  • @Origamiboy97 its gold plated, you can buy those, but they're like, $10 more than normal silver ones

  • theyre not the best quality, zen magnets are, nano dots are def up there tho, maybe 2nd or 3rd.. not sure which is cheaper, but if theyre the same go with zen magnets for sure :)

  • is it possible to make a 20 ball dodecahedron, the balls are VERY unstable in that formation no matter what approach i try to do, i tried to make a 10 ball star, and then add pentagons, but nothing works :(

it jsut sucks, because its the only platonic solid that seems impossible, id argue its harder to make than a solid tetrahedron larger than l=2

  • I have an easier way to do the third one... If you can't see what IEatGlu is doing, get two circles of eight, connect them so they aren't interlinking, then get two things of four like he does in the video and put them in the middle of both circles. If you didn't understand what I just said, that's okay.

  • great fucking vid man i mean bravo your hands r soo sexy its all i fucking c!!!!!!!!
