To celebrate my 1000th subscriber I decided to do a video showing how to turn a wooden goblet this one was made from cherry. A really nice little project with a beautiful lacquer finish. A great woodturning project of a wooden goblet which can be done on a mini lathe, simple step by step lesson. Cool lathe project, turning a wooden goblet.

  • ever use steel wool instead of high grit sandpaper? im new to lathes but have often used 000-00000 steel wool to make fine finishes on wood works

  • @sirblocketh

I often do use steel wool of that kind of grade between coats of finish becasue it won't scratch it quite like sandpaper does. I do usually use high grit papers for rubbing out the lacquer.

  • Spur center in the middle of the chuck?

  • @ThePaddler3

No, I didn't used a spur centre in the chuck.

  • im buying a lathe and i was wondering. when you first started was it HARD to get the shapes and nice beads? because i never used one. also if i only have a faceplate dos that mean that i cannot turn with the tail stock thingy off? thanks preston

  • @sandstar102

In the begining it can be harder to creat small little beads like this but it is perfectly possible. Hollowing it where it gets a little trickyer. With a faceplate you can remove the tailstock because you fix it using screws, you just have to make sure you don't end up turning into the screws. I have done several videos showing using a faceplate so check those out.
