oh...yeah well that's for sure. Of course it's completely impossible to make a plane or the statue of liberty disappear. But that doesn't mean that ALL the magic is special effects. Most of david blaines street magic is all in slight of hand, although criss angel is indeed more of a faker.

you missed the quoted word, I will capitalize it this time: "BIG" magic tricks.
Both Blaine and Criss are great magicians, but they pretend to be even greater with really "mind blowing" (mind freaking? lol) tricks. I mean for the normal tv audience who is not really familiar with magic tricks (those who aren't magicians) won't notice the difference, but in my case I puke each time Criss says "no camera tricks involved" and I can clearly see that it is in fact involved.

Depends on what type of magic are you interested: card magic, coin magic, mentalism, escapology, etc... Magic performances are usually classified as close-up magic (sitting next to you), stand-up magic (magic standing up in front of an audience) and stage magic (huge audience using props, ex. sawing a woman in half). Blaine created a new style called "street magic". "Bizarre magic" and "Shock magic" are themes that are mystical (ie. spirits) and freakish (like eating needles),that would be Criss

Well i'm more interested in the street magic. Definitely no stage magic. And the only books I found teach really simple stuff, enunciating the fact that the magic is not about tricks and slight of hand, but about acting. I get that, but I DON'T MIND learning slight of hand, you know? anyway, thx.

Well, if you are interested in "street magic" you should focus on close-up magic. Remember the current "street magic" is just a theme, it is not a novel set of techniques. Yes, what you learned is absolutely true. The real secret of magic is not the technique, it is the acting. A very simple and basic technique presented in an intriguing way causes a miraculous effect. The presentation and the theme is everything.

Start reading the "Royal Road to Card Magic" by Frederick Braue and "Modern Coin Magic" by J.B. Bobo. That is a great start.
