A film about aerial spraying of the herbicide Atrazine in Tasmania. Atrazine is known to disrupt hormones, causing infertility across species including in humans. In Australia we allow 8 times the levels allowed in the US, and 40 times the levels that will cause a male frog to become a hermaphrodite.

  • Large influx of freshwater into a salt water estuary will cause death of crustaceans. This phenomena is not uncommon. The catchment was sprayed with alpha cypermethrin, an insecticide. The helicopter that crashed was carrying a small amount of this in its tank, some 30 odd km from the estuary. I can't understand what the link with atrazine is in this story.

  • There was a cocktail of chemicals found in the holding tank of the helicopter, including atrazine. It is not clear what killed the sea animals. What is fact is that atrazine is a known hormone disruptor, and that it is aerially sprayed in Tasmania along with many other chemicals whose compound effect is unknown. For me that is enough.

  • find and read the book "A Bitter Fog" Herbicides and Human Rights by Carol Van Strum to begin to understand.

Thank you to Dr. Tyrone Hayes for "Crossing the Line"... much love.

  • Help ban atrazine! Join Global Citizens Against Atrazine on Facebook.

  • We noticed also the milk trucks filled with cleaning chemicals before filling up with milk will back up to the Leven river at Bannons Park and dump their load straight down the river bank!! I am deeply saddened we can do nothing about the careless actions of others being protected by the government for the almighty dollar.

  • I would like to advise you guys as a testimonial witness at approximately 1999 an elderly lady living in Ulverstone all her life died suddenly after autopsy was found to have 11 times the legal standard of atrazine in her system, the story was hushed and nothing was motioned to stop this polution in the leven river, instead the council offered incentives for river flat landowners with Parks and Wildlife to dredge the river deeper for a bigger flush to sea?

  • Sane, sober, and powerful. Something has to be done

to ensure Tasmania's people - parents to be, children,

and future generations, don't suffer immeasurable health

problems now and in the future.

Where are the decent human beings in politics?

What happened to the Labor party, who used to be about

    caring for the vulnerable ?

  • Thanks. The herbicide atrazine is of relatively low acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates, so is unlikely to have caused the oyster kill mentioned. Caution should be excercised in making such connections. I dont think Dr Bleaney has suggested this was the case. But the viewer is certainly left with the impression that atrazine was the cause so the film maker has some responsibility here.

  • powerful story, well told. thanks for making and posting this, this message needs to be spread. i'll pass it on.
