I don't understand, they make a quick move and then either run or go back to a starting position. I really like the idea of fighting with swords but hand to hand just seems more paced n not I guess choppy I'd put it between fights.
@magnet101 Kendo is a fencing training exercise. Studying fencing can improve your sense of balance, movement stamina and perception. Kendo can also be used as a form of character building exercise to help strengthen your resolve. Thirdly it is a modern sport. Thousands of Japanese and Korean cops practice Kendo for these reasons (along with Judo, Naginata Jukendo, & Iaido).
@1986HeavyMetal I took your advice on board and "borrowed" a kendo stick from a friend of mine. I hid in a park and jumped out at passers by, hitting them quite forcefully and then chasing them away. I must say it did feel kind of neat. I think I might do kendo more often. Thanks man.
@magnet101 Only try to think that they are practicing a secolar martial art, founded on hundred of years of sword fighting improve...
When I started kendo, I didn't know anything about it, I was there to "playing" with swords, like you said, then I was charmed by it, I cannot explain, but if you don't practice and you're sceptic, simply your mind doesn't care, but I'll be glad if you want to think about it and try yourself, onegaeshi masu!
@Deniztengri But what's the point of it? It's not like we fight with swords anymore. Do they carry those around with them day to day just in case it kicks off?
The way Sumi Sensei says "Yame" is cooler than the way I say yame.
