  • Thanks for comments here. TV NZ have rated it on their news as an aborted landing. I haven't been in the cockpit or the tower either. So unfortunately, I am not in the position to confirm - however, the plane was really low and you could hear the engines reving up when the plane took off again!

  • good thing wellington airport is too small to allow a 747 to land there with those crazy winds

  • that was maverick...and he wanted to do a flyby...but the pattern was full...

  • It's called going around. It happens many times every day, at airports all over the world. It is standard operating procedure for a missed approach.

  • @onecunningfox - I'm pretty sure the A380 can handle crosswinds. They wouldn't put out a plane onto the market that can't land with crosswinds. Plus, they go through a hell of a lot of tests. Just search on YouTube if you don't believe me.

  • @ZKNBW It was aborted due to windshear, I was listning to the tower

  • der aller grösste wird heute von der lufthansa .......übernommen

  • I'd hardly call it an aborted landing the aircraft must have been at 1000-1500ft as it flew over!

  • It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's the Australian Flying Whale! Yipee! Watch the oversized Airbuster become overtaken by crosswind potential...I wonder how autoland would help in a fifty-knot crosswind? That'd be different.

  • I've seen them done tests landing the A380 in heavy crosswinds at Keflavik, Iceland...

  • I believe they have done tests landing in heavy crosswinds in Keflavik, Iceland...
