@TheNortoriousbig you go to "rectangle select", select what you want cropped, then on the top row you click image, and the first one on the dropdown says"crop to selection" :) hope that helps! but iagree i hate this program too its too confusing

Correction, Paint.net has nothing to do with MS. It's just another program with the name paint.
