Researchers at the Center for Visualization are working on ways to capture a 3D image using structured light. We are working on capturing 3D facial scans and 3D fingerprints.
Nature naturally limits the power of the possible police state. Until technology comes along and changes the balance. Yes, the lines at the airport will go faster. But the police state will become that much more capable, effective, capacitated, at being able to do its policing. What is used today to recognize the faces of criminals can be used tomorrow to weed out dissidents, political minorities, etc.
a 3dprinter. mold a rubber hand/glov and you can frame anyone. Can we make system foolproof so any data can't leak? One way or another it's plausible to bribe to get the information or hack into a system that must be online.
