1970 Sunbeam Alpine project....

The donar car was a 1994 BMW 540i touring, all the wiring loom, engine and gearbox (6 speed manual). This project will take me the next couple of years to get together but for now here's a teaser of how far i've gotten.

Chassis has not been modified but i have cut away some of the bulkhead for better clearance, and stiffend the engine mounts with the BMW's crossmenber.

car weighs 1000kg exactly, the engine is all ally so the overall weight is much the same as it was with the original cast iron 4 cylinder lump!. (1725cc)

the Bmw engine produces 286bhp, but i have removed the cats and other restrictions taking this one up to 300bhp.

i will be useing the bmw 6 speed manual gearbox but will use the limited slip diff from a ford capri, this is a simple bolt in mod.

more information and video's to follow!

  • Who's your mechanic.."Jack The Ripper"?..lol

  • Is that a wiring loom, or a massacre at an android factory?

I've been considering getting one of these and transplanting something bigger than the 1725 in, a 4 litre seems a bit ambitious though :D

  • I love this mini Barracuda with a BMW V8, even down to the pillarless roofline. I think it'll look quite elegant once finished and the Wolfrace wheels are replaced with Astro Supremes on redlines.

  • any more news on this ? would love to see that rare old beast coplete

  • ha ha look at that loom so many wires ! reminds me of when i put a rover vitesse (800) turbo engine in a hunter with the full loom ! thats gonna be awsome when finished...good work :)

  • Get them thermals on!! :) and if you're not already on some sunbeam forum then head over to retro-rides org and start a project thread there. It's just the sort of project they/we love

  • Fantastic work!

Do you have a blog or project thread anywhere?
