The idea is from Alan Parekh www.hackedgadgets.com. In his video he as a sensor at the top and bottom of the stairs and the LEDs come on sequentially.
To prototype the idea I used a LightSabre board I designed used in decorative lighting fixtures for the City of Vancouver and to simulate a black ring for the 2010 Olympic Games.
For now my software runs in a continuous loop, first simulating a sensor at one end of the stairs, then staying on for 5 seconds before they go off. Then after two seconds, simulating the sensor at the other end of the stairway.
