Here is an idea for Dan to push. This can be done relatively quickly, quicker than waiting for our own oil to flow and would lower gas prices. Mandate one blend of fuel that can be used all through the U.S. that meets the strictest states regulation. Currently refineries blend over 20 different types for various parts of the country. One or two blends would help lower our gasoline prices and open more production.
Why do you all keep blaming Clinton for everything? lol Bush took office in 2001 with a Republican Congress. He and Dan had 6 years to lift the order Clinton would not do. Why didn't the Republicans revisit this afterwards? Drilling now is too little, too late. Oil companies don't have enough platforms or oil refineries to even begin to put any kind of dent on our demand. World demand increases so by the time they're ready demand will cancel what's pulled out.
You're right, we shouldn't put all our eggs in one basket but we must wean ourselves off of oil all together for fuel for vehicles but do it within 5 years. We've been burnt twice by our dependency on oil. Congress should have pushed for alternatives in the 80's instead of giving subsidies to the oil companies. Truthfully, both parties are at fault for our problems. Mainly Republicans since they have had the power more often.
Again, your facts are all wrong. The issue emerged in 1996 when Republicans pushed Clinton to remove the Executive Order. Clinton refused and instead released petroleum out of the strategic reserve with little effect.
If it was up to Dan Burton and the Republicans we would be using this oil already. But none of that matters now. The truth is that Bush has rescinded the E.O. and there is a majority in Congress for drilling.
Because we shouldn't put all of our eggs in one basket. Let's drill, let's use wind power, let's permit more nuclear power, let's conserve. Why only one solution?
Why didn't Bush and Danny push to open ANWR and offshore drilling when the Republicans had control of congress and presidency? Why did Reagan put a moratorium on offshore drilling and Bush Sr and GW extend the moratorium? Don't go blaming Dems because the Republicans had ample chances to curb our dependency on foreign oil. Remember, Republicans have had the power more often than Democrats. Don't debate me miss...you'll lose!
You can always count on someone to give the standard Demmie excuse. It's interesting- for 10 years the Demmies have been saying that we shouldn't drill for oil because it will take 5-10 years to take affect. It's clear the American people are seeing past that now.
As for the Pickens Plan, you should read the link to Dan's bill on his website. Dan actually, prior to Pickens announcing, already proposed several things that Pickens wants.
But expect you to actually read it before writing? Nah.
Don't forget to tell your sheep that it'll take at least 5 years to start and it may only barely reduce our demand for foreign oil by 3% but only if demand doesn't increase.
The "Drill here, drill now" crowd sound like drunks giving excuses for not getting treatment.
Here Danny, want this country to be energy independent...read the Pickens Plan since you were out of town when he presented his plan yesterday.

If only Pelosi would allow a vote.
