As the House of Lords debates amendments to the welfare reform bill, protesters from a range of welfare activist groups such as Single Mothers' Self Defence, Mad Pride and Right to Work gathered outside to lobby members. They were joined by Labour MP John McDonnell, who called for 'much more severe and serious opposition' from the Labour party, in the hope that parts of the bill could be defeated if it comes back to the Commons

  • @n1hmrd One significant reason why there is little sympathy for this is the failure of single mothers to fight for the 50/50 child contact (as a starting point for negotiation) in the Official Family Justice Review.

Whether or not, you, I or anybody else feels that Norgrove's original idea was a good one, single mothers (and no I don't mean widows) now have far less sympathy from everyday people because they are seen to be accepting money from the state to get pregnant and negate father.

  • the lady describing how many times she's been in hospital with mental illness. actually - i'd just like to point out that many, many people who are seriously mentally ill never make it to hospital. So it is NOT a barometer of severity or validity of illness. There is far too much of this comparable suffering on the part of people who are very visible.

In a sense - you almost have to be well enough to go into a hospital. There are many, many more who are looked after by their families.

  • ive had loads of job interviews but because in milton keynes in the uk theres 100 people for every job mostly eastern europeans they ruined the uk and put skilled young workers like myself out of a job because they are greedy bastards who want to turn the uk into a 3rd world country like russia and the eu dont help they keep passing crazy laws and the vat rise was crazy put 5%extra on everything u buy fucking wankers they think people want to be out of work only crack heads dont work thats it

  • @coronobog I agree my comment is towards the ones who haven't worked and expect the tax payers to pay for them to sit on there ass

  • Many in the WRAG are told at their Work Focused Interview that they are too ill to work and sent home for a few months which begs the question why are they in WRAG? Could it be that this is just a cost cutting exercise?

  • If you claim ESA you MUST inform them if you go away from home, even if it is for a day.

    This is just wrong.

Those people who agree with the cuts need to consider how they will feel if they take ill or have an accident.

Work for forty years and only allowed to have one year contribution based ESA in the WRAG.

    Fair? No

The majority of people migrating from IB to ESA are placed in the WRAG because the assesment is designed to fail you.

    Many appeals are won.

  • @demarcos69 too much for nothing? Let us see if you agree if after working for forty years and paying into the system you suddenly take ill or have an accident. You go onto contibution based ESA WRAG and you only get this benefit for a year before it is means tested. Because your wife works and has a low paid job you lose your ESA and have to live on your wifes wage.

People who say that the REAL ill and disabled will be in the support group are very wrong. The system is unfair and wrong.

  • @Yuri1981able Hate to sound all conspiracy theory nut but,,I dont dont like the smell of this,i get a bad feeling

  • @n1hmrd I agree I goto the BBC website and its full of mostly hate comments but everywhere else rational people its very odd!

  • @jr2nd i still think all mps should be paid a wage so 5 pound a hour ,reasoning, it would attract less ppl who are more concerned with money, passing laws that benefit there own interests there ,we need rules that attract ppl who are concerned with helping the ppl of united kingdom, rules in place so they cant ,if cameron was to say tomorrow ,we are going to do such things,we are going to lead by example, alot of us would go ok,but example they are leading is widely known :(.
