Tabla - How i fitted internal microphones into my drums - Part 1 - John J Millar

I had a skin off my Bayan so i decided to film & demonstrate how my Tabla have been fitted with Internal (akg) microphones. I did this at least 12 years ago & rarely have a head off. It might be of interest to anyone thinking of the same thing.( Note:- when i refer to the mic fittings on my drums as akg fittings what i mean is they are XLR fittings , it is the mic's that are akg) I was inspired to fit these in a set of my Tabla for various purposes especially when having to play with other electric instruments. Thanks must go to my good friend and great Tabla player Mick Ripsher (check him out on Youtube) who actually did this before me and showed me how he set it up. There is a Part 2 to this and then i will post some short Videos of me actually playing them as a demonstration.

Excellent idea, I'm looking to do the same for my tabla however I'd just like to find out what the sound quality is like compared to having a standard mic on the tabla on top. Please could you make a video of you playing it.

Also would you recommend any other alternatives to the mic's you have as they seem to be rare.

Hi, First check out Part 2 of this video where i play the Tabla flat with no effects. Then check out Tabla - Electric Layaland - Part One - John Jhalib Millar - White India where I have posted a comment about alternative mic's. I have also more videos where i am playing them under Electric Layaland. The closest i know to mine are the AKG C 519 mic which also uses the control boxes like i use now called B29. Or search clip on mics on the web. A visit to a good music shop would be useful.
