Visiting Raymond Burr Vineyards is a special treat! Legendary Raymond Burr, of the Perry Mason and Ironside fame, along with longtime friend and colleague Robert Benevides, planted their first Cabernet Sauvignon vines in 1986 and bottled their first vintage in 1992. Raymond was only able to taste this vintage from the barrel before his passing but in his wake he left a style, passion and philosophy that is still inherent in the winemaking today. The wines made at Raymond Burr Vineyards - Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc & Chardonnay - along with a very small production of specialized Ports - are said to be very much like the man: big, full of gusto, complex and jubilantly alive.

Raymond & Robert both had the aptitude for cultivation in their genes, which is what made them fast friends back in the 1950's when they began to share their mutual passion for the cultivation and hybridization of orchids. This shared hobby grew into a lifelong commercial venture which later became Sea God nurseries. During their time together they were responsible for over 1500 new orchids added to the worldwide catalogue - some of which you can see in when you visit. Today the orchid greenhouses are under the care of both Robert and longtime orchid aficionado Francisco Baptista, and are open for public tours by appointment on Saturdays & Sundays.

Visiting Raymond Burr vineyards is a full & rich experience - the history, the orchids, the friendly staff and of course the wines, make it a 'must visit' on your tour of the Dry Creek Valley - and be sure to bring a picnic lunch as their tasting room sits on a hilltop and overlooks the beautiful valleys below.

If you go to the website of Raymond Burr Vineyards, you should be able to order some there.

It is well worth it, and my uncle loves what he does.

    I miss the winery.

Hoping to go soon, possibly this Spring!

@Slugo4449, if the family does make it there, I will try my best to get some video to send to you.

It is amazing there. Very peaceful. The Orchids are beautiful. (:

  • This is the only video that Raymond Burr Vineyards has on the Internet. I have looked. How bout someone making some more videos and get them on you-tube. This is almost like a teaser, I want to see more. I am disabled and can't travel very well. Mr. Benevides, get one of the employees to walk around all day and video the place will ya? Wine and Orchids go very well together.

  • Hey it's Uncle Robert!

    Nice video :)

I enjoy getting to see my uncle whenever I can, haven't seen him in a few years now.

  • That is Mary Burr's husband?

  • @iluv2befit i am still a fan of perry mason. i also like ironside as well

  • Thank you very much for this informative and personal video. I always liked Raymond Burr as an actor, but knew little about the man. He sounds like he was a very decent man, with a love of growing, and care and concern for others through his giving. His partner also sounds like a very nice man, and I am so pleased that Raymond Burr was able to have a happy and fulfilled private life as well as a brilliant career. None of our business really, but very nice to know in retrospect. Nick

  • What an actor! I love Rear Window. My favorite movie of all time! I would love to visit this place!
