This is a "input shaft bearing" from a 7th generation Honda civic. It is a known problem to sometimes cause a "whirring" or grinding sound within your engine.
It usually happens around 100k on the car or could possibly go anytime if driven hard. for more info please visit this current site(s)

Props to the Current Authors for the EXCELLENT EXCELLENT write ups. Good job guys!

  • could the same symptoms happen to a ranger mines around 99k and has a whirring noise

  • @hhohydrogen Yup Gayness in the anus.

  • I just demolished my hands doing a new clutch/flywheel + throwout bearing, and now I really think it's my input shaft bearing. Wish I saw this before I put the thing back together. Heard it was only $20 something bucks from Honda.

  • i think my car has that, how the hell does that happen when the gearbox is full of oil? and good luck puttin the box backtogether its like a puzzle
